Crushing loss in Paris Wood lost to Pavel Andrusca via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.

Impact It was a loss Wood simply couldn't afford as a -300 favorite. Originally scheduled to face Mairon Santos, he agreed to this opponent change less than a week ago and ended up paying for it. He did nothing outside of an early Round 2 knockdown from which Andrusca quickly recovered. With the fight conceivably up for grabs in Round 3, Wood gave up a takedown and allowed 3:40 worth of control time, sealing his fate. The Englishman entered having won four straight, so his roster spot is plenty secure, but this is going to be a setback that is difficult to overcome.

Set for new opponent Wood will face Pavel Andrusca in a featherweight bout at UFC Paris on Saturday, Marcel Dorff of Heavy on Sports reports.

Impact Wood was initially expected to face Mairon Santos, but after the Brazilian withdrew from the fight for medical reasons earlier this month, Wood now has a new opponent. Andrusca is undefeated as a pro, but this will be his UFC debut. It remains to be seen how he'll handel the pressure of making his promotion debut on short notice.

Impact Wood is red-hot, having won his last four UFC bouts and his last six professional fights overall. His last time in the Octagon, he snuck past Losene Keita via split decision back in March. Now, he's booked against a fighter in Santos who boasts a stellar 17-1 Pro MMA record, including 4-0 in the UFC.

Impact This was as close of a fight as you will ever see, with both men staking a reasonable claim to victory. Ultimately, two of the three judges felt Wood did enough as a +210 underdog. The bigger blows probably came from the Keita side, but in a bout of this razor-thin margin, activity matters and Wood attempted 178 significant strikes compared to just 119 from his opponent. Wood has shown zero signs of slowing down of late despite the fact he will be turning 33 years of age in early August. He's 7-1 in his last eight fights dating back to July 2022 and is quietly climbing the rankings at 145 pounds.

Scheduled for UFC London Wood is scheduled to compete against Losene Keita in a featherweight fight at UFC London on March 21, per Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.

Impact Wood will look to go 8-2 in 10 fights by defeating Keita, yet to make his UFC debut but 16-1 in other promotions. Though the former has 13 career finishes, eight KO/TKO and five submission, all of his last nine bouts saw them end via unanimous decision.

Improves to 6-1 in past seven Wood defeated Jose Delgado via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 321 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

Impact We can debate until the cows come home whether or not Wood deserved to win a decision here, but he unquestionably put forth a reasonable performance against a talented opponent that came in over weight. Wood also deserves a ton of credit for surviving a spinning back fist in Round 1 which dropped him to the mat and clearly broke his nose. He was the better man on the feet in Round 2 and landed a takedown in Round 3 to further his cause. Wood has VERY quietly won three straight and six of seven dating back to July 2022.

Heavier opponent scheduled Wood and Jose Miguel Delgado will compete in a catchweight fight at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, UFC.com reports.

Impact Delgado missed the UFC's featherweight limit of 146 pounds. But because their fight is still on, it appears that Wood has accepted the bout's catchweight terms, with him getting 30 percent of Delgado's purse. In 2025, Wood is 1-0, with a win over Morgan Charriere.

Impact Wood would head into the bout looking to extend a four-fight win streak across promotions dating back to March, 2024. The 5-foot-5 Englishman will have to overcome disadvantages in both height and reach compared to the younger American in this one. With a balanced professional record across finishes, Wood can employ a number of strategies, though he will likely be hoping to take this one to the finish seeing as Delgado's sole professional defeat came via decision.
