Longtime UFC Contender Suddenly Calls It Quits, Gives Emotional Retirement Speech Following One-Sided Brutal TKO Loss Marina Rodriguez is one of the most technical strikers in the UFC’s strawweight history.
Retires following latest loss Rodriguez lost to Gillian Robertson via TKO (punches) at 2:07 of Round 2 at UFC Fight night on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Impact The 38-year-old Rodriguez announced her retirement after the fight. Marina has always had some pop in her hands, but she also has a massive hole in her defensive grappling and and that was a recipe for disaster against a quality wrestler like Robertson. Gillian easily muscled her to the mat and eventually ended up in mount to earn the stoppage. Rodriguez closed her UFC run with three straight losses, but she was a member of the roster since September 2018 and has wins over Mackenzie Dern, Yan Xiaonan, and Michelle Waterson on her resume. It was a nice run.
