Malcolm Wellmaker - News & Rumors - UFC

Third straight defeat as favorite Wellmaker lost to Otari Tanzilovi via TKO (strikes) at 2:39 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Impact It's Wellmaker's third straight loss as a favorite dating back to last November, with the last two coming via stoppage. At least here, he had some positive moments early on. He scored a Round 1 knockdown in winning the frame on all three scorecards, but he was eventually dropped with a head kick midway through Round 2 before being finished with follow-up shots. Wellmaker turned 32 years of age in June despite the fact this was just his 13th professional fight. He may have to return to the regional scene in hopes of working his way back to the promotion.

Another chance in Vegas card Wellmaker will fight fellow bantamweight Otari Tanzilovi at UFC Vegas 121 on Oct. 21, according to Marcel Dorff of Heavy on Sports.

Impact The last time Wellmaker fought in Las Vegas, he submitted to Juan Diaz back in May. Wellmaker's loss marked back-to-back poor performances in the UFC, and this may be his last chance in the promotion, considering Tanzilovi has also struggled to make an impression with the promotion.

JULY 28 • ROTOWIRE

Second straight poor performance Wellmaker lost to Juan Diaz via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:08 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Impact That's back-to-back horrendous performances from Wellmaker as a significant favorite. He was even worse here against Diaz than against Ethyn Ewing last November. Malcolm has legitimate power and looks quite good hitting pads in the back, but he doesn't seem to process things all that well inside the octagon. He basically completely wilted under the pressure of Diaz, allowing five takedowns on eight attempts. Where he goes from here is an open question. Wellmaker will be 32 years old in early June, so he's not as young as your typical "prospect."

Booked against debuting opponent Wellmaker will take on Juan Diaz in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Vegas 117 on Saturday.

Impact Wellmaker suffered his first pro loss against Ethyn Ewing last November but now looks to bounce back against a debuting opponent in Diaz. Diaz is a fellow Contender Series product who picked up his contract last April. Wellmaker's UFC experience, as well as two-inch advantages in both height and reach, likely explain why he's as high as a (-280) betting favorite as of the start of fight week.

Loses to late-notice opponent Wellmaker lost to Ethyn Ewing via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 322 on Saturday in New York City.

Impact Wellmaker agreed to face Ewing exactly 48 hours ago following the withdrawal of Cody Haddon (foot) and he ended up paying for it. In the end, it wasn't much of a surprise. Malcolm has ridiculous power but we've never seen much else from him. He struggled with the constant pressure of Ewing and his cardio looked lousy, the latter of which isn't surprising since none of his prior three fights lasted longer than 2:37. To make matters worse, at 31 years old, Wellmaker isn't a kid. He needs a rebound performance his next time out.

UFC Atlanta: Welcome Malcolm Wellmaker | Sporting News Malcolm Wellmaker might not have been a household name prior to UFC Atlanta Saturday night, but that all changed with one swift knockout.

JUNE 15, 2025 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM

Another instant victory Wellmaker defeated Kris Moutinho via KO (punch) at 2:37 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlanta.

Impact The UFC was giving Wellmaker a layup here as a -2000 favorite, and to his credit, he did exactly what he had to. Malcolm has displayed elite finishing ability early in his career, and Moutinho can't take a punch, so here we are. Wellmaker was credited with 25 significant strikes landed, with the final one, a massive right hand, ending things in an instant. Malcolm is in an interesting spot moving forward. He has first-round knockout wins in his first two UFC bouts and his appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, but he has all of 10 professional fights under his belt at age 31. The company seems likely to take it easy with him for another outing or two.

New opponent scheduled Wellmaker will face Kris Moutinho in a bantamweight fight at UFC Atlanta on June 14, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Impact Wellmaker is coming off an impressive UFC debut after defeating Cameron Saaiman via K.O. in Round 1 at UFC Fight Night in Kansas City. Malcolm has nine professional fights and will look to extend his perfect record against his new challenger, Kris Moutinho, who is still looking for his first UFC victory.

JUNE 4, 2025 • USATODAY.COM

Shines in UFC debut Wellmaker defeated Cameron Saaiman via KO (punch) at 1:59 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kansas City.

Impact Wellmaker earned his UFC opportunity with a 2:29 knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series last August. He improved that time by exactly 30 seconds here in his official company debut. The two fought to even terms early on, at which point Wellmaker uncorked a right hand which landed flush and closed the show in an instant. He'll almost certainly be walking away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus, and he deserves it. Wellmaker is clearly talented, but he has just nine professional fights under his belt, so expect some struggles along the way.
