Impact Wellmaker agreed to face Ewing exactly 48 hours ago following the withdrawal of Cody Haddon (foot) and he ended up paying for it. In the end, it wasn't much of a surprise. Malcolm has ridiculous power but we've never seen much else from him. He struggled with the constant pressure of Ewing and his cardio looked lousy, the latter of which isn't surprising since none of his prior three fights lasted longer than 2:37. To make matters worse, at 31 years old, Wellmaker isn't a kid. He needs a rebound performance his next time out.

Another instant victory Wellmaker defeated Kris Moutinho via KO (punch) at 2:37 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlanta.
Impact The UFC was giving Wellmaker a layup here as a -2000 favorite, and to his credit, he did exactly what he had to. Malcolm has displayed elite finishing ability early in his career, and Moutinho can't take a punch, so here we are. Wellmaker was credited with 25 significant strikes landed, with the final one, a massive right hand, ending things in an instant. Malcolm is in an interesting spot moving forward. He has first-round knockout wins in his first two UFC bouts and his appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, but he has all of 10 professional fights under his belt at age 31. The company seems likely to take it easy with him for another outing or two.

Impact Wellmaker earned his UFC opportunity with a 2:29 knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series last August. He improved that time by exactly 30 seconds here in his official company debut. The two fought to even terms early on, at which point Wellmaker uncorked a right hand which landed flush and closed the show in an instant. He'll almost certainly be walking away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus, and he deserves it. Wellmaker is clearly talented, but he has just nine professional fights under his belt, so expect some struggles along the way.
