Joaquim Silva - News & Rumors - UFC | FOX Sports

Late knockdown secures win Silva defeated Claudio Puelles via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Noche on Saturday in San Antonio.

Impact Silva deserves full marks here for digging deep and potentially stealing a victory in the dying seconds of the fight. Puelles was able to get his wrestling game going early, ultimately landing 4-of-16 takedown attempts. Yet he tired as the bout progressed and Silva took advantage. A late surge from Joaquim, highlighted by a knockdown in the closing moments ended up winning Silva a fight which could have gone either way. The 36-year-old Brazilian has alternated wins and losses in his past six fights dating back to June 2021.

Next fight booked Silva will match up against Claudio Puelles at Noche UFC on Sept.13, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Impact Silva will finally get back into the octagon after pulling out of a scheduled fight in March at UFC Mexico due to undisclosed reasons. The Brazilian lightweight also sports a 2-3 UFC record in his last five matches, so he has plenty to prove against Puelles. With both fighters coming into September with recently inconsistent match results, there will be a lot on the line when they fight in Texas.
