Not competitive in Vegas main event Royval lost to Manel Kape via KO (punches) at 3:18 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Impact One might suggest Royval has been punching above his weight class at 125 pounds despite the fact he has had a run of success against the division's best. He entered with just a 2-2 mark in his past five fights, with both wins -- Tatsuro Taira, Brandon Moreno -- coming via split decision. Win or lose, Royval has displayed legendary durability, which makes this result even more painful. There wasn't much happening early on, at which point the first big flurry of the fight from Kape put him away. Going back to November 2020, Royval is sporting a 5-5 record. At 33 years old, it's far more likely than not we have already seen the best he has to offer inside the octagon.

Facing Kape in main event Royval will take on Manel Kape in a flyweight bout at UFC Vegas 112 on Dec. 13, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.

Impact Royval will look to avenge a loss his last time in the Octagon, when the flyweight fell to Joshua Van via unanimous decision in June. That dropped his UFC record to 7-4, and he'll look for win number eight in a main event and the last UFC fight of 2025. His opponent Kape, meanwhile, has won two straight and will be looking to climb to 7-3 in the promotion.

Impact You can't help but feel for Royval here. Originally scheduled to face Manel Kape this evening, he agreed to this opponent change less than three weeks ago despite the fact he had little to gain from a rankings standpoint. Hopefully some of those hard feelings are negated by the $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus that is surely coming his way. Royval fought Van blow-for-blow in what was a 15-minute kickboxing match. Brandon remained hyper aggressive in trying to drown Van with volume, while the latter landed the more damaging blows. Royval was ultimately knocked down with just seconds left, eliminating any chance he had of taking a decision. The flyweight division is thin enough that the 32-year-old Colorado native can work his way back to the top in short order, but this is a clear setback for Royval.
