Closing in on another title shot Moreno defeated Steve Erceg via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City. Impact It was a vintage performance from Moreno. He pushed the pace on Erceg and made his strikes count even though he landed considerably fewer than his opponent. Moreno is the type of fighter that looks busy at all times and that's a positive thing in the eyes of the judges. He won this fight -- going away -- despite trailing 116-89 on the significant strike count and failing on four of five takedown attempts. Part of that is because Erceg's style simply isn't conducive to landing notable shots. Moreno lost two fights in a row -- both via split decision -- from July 2023 to February 2024, the second of which cost him his UFC Flyweight Championship. He rebounded with a brilliant effort in a unanimous decision win over Amir Albazi in November and was equally impressive tonight. Because of the lack of depth at the top of the 125-pound division, Moreno is going to be fighting for UFC gold once again in the not-too-distant future, and he deserves it.
