The roommate of a slain Middle Tennessee State basketball player has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection to the woman's death.
Joe Brandon, the attorney for 18-year-old Shanterrica Madden, tells The Associated Press that his client was indicted Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court on July 18.
Madden is accused in the killing of 21-year-old Tina Stewart, who was stabbed to death March 2 following a fight at their apartment.
Brandon has said in court that Madden acted in self-defense.
