No. 25 Syracuse women get past Pittsburgh 68-54
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Brianna Butler sank five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points to help No. 25 Syracuse to a 68-54 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Briana Day added 15 points while pulling down 18 rebounds and Alexis Peterson had 14 points for Syracuse (20-8, 10-5 ACC), which was held to just 33.9 percent shooting from the floor. The Orange held a 10-4 edge in buckets from behind the arc and a 16-6 advantage in made free throws.
Pittsburgh (18-9, 8-6) pushed back into the lead midway through the second half with Yacine Diop's layup that made it 50-48 with 11:41 left but then missed its next seven shots. Syracuse reclaimed the advantage for good with an 8-0 run fueled by Day and Cornelia Foundren. The Orange continued to pad their lead down the stretch.
Monica Wignot led Pittsburgh with 14 points, Diop had 12 and Brianna Kiesel 11. Stasha Carey had 11 rebounds.
