UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) Tamika Catchings had 26 points and 10 rebounds, including the 3,000th of her career, to help the Indiana Fever held off Connecticut 92-84 on Tuesday night to snap the Sun's seven-game winning streak.
Indiana led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter but the Sun stormed back, pulling within 85-82 on Alex Bentley's 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining. But the Fever made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal it.
Catchings made her first six field goals of the game, missing her first at the 8:03 mark of the fourth quarter. She finished 9 of 10 from the floor, including 4 of 4 from 3-point range, and made all four of her free throws. With her tenth rebound, she became the fourth player in the WNBA history to reach 3,000 rebounds. She also became the 13th player in the league to reach the 400-game plateau.
Shenise Johnson added 13 points for Indiana (4-6) and Natalie Achonwa had 10. The Fever had 33 bench points, compared to the Sun's seven.
All five starters for Connecticut (7-2) scored in double figures. Kelsey Bone led the way with 21 points before being ejected with 1:05 remaining in the game for a flagrant 2 foul.
Connecticut was seeking its eighth straight win, which would have tied the second-longest winning streak in franchise history.
The game swung in the third quarter as Indiana started the second half on a 15-2 run for a 64-46 lead. Indiana made only one field goal in the first 5 minutes.
Both teams shot above 64 percent in the first quarter. Natasha Howard's three-point play with 0.3 seconds left gave Indiana a 27-26 lead, which was the most points a Sun opponent has scored in a quarter this season.
Indiana went on a 10-0 second-quarter run, with six points by Johnson, for a 39-31 lead. The Fever led 49-44 at the half as both teams shot 58 percent from the field.
All nine of Indiana's active players scored in the first half. Erlana Larkins (knee), Jeanette Pohlen (calf strain), and Shavonte Zellous (sore back) did not play for the Fever.
