Varner vs. Healy on Deck for FOX 9
Two lightweights looking to bounce back from recent losses will meet at UFC on Fox: Pettis vs. Thomson as former WEC champion Jamie Varner has agreed to meet Pat Healy on the upcoming Sacramento card.
UFC officials confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for the bout to FOX Sports on Sunday.
Varner will return in December hoping to erase the memories of a tough defeat in his last fight against Gleison Tibau at UFC 164 in August. Since returning to the UFC last year, Varner has bounced back and forth between wins and losses while trying to find his footing in the ultra deep lightweight division.
It won't be easy for Varner to pick up that win, however, when he faces a very tough and very large challenge from former Strikeforce contender Pat Healy.
A monstrous lightweight who spent most of his career at 170 pounds, Healy is in need of a big performance when he fights at UFC on Fox in December. Healy's debut win was eventually overturned when he tested positive for marijuana in a post fight drug test, and then he was dominated by Russian prospect Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last bout at UFC 165.
It's been seven years since Healy first made his UFC debut back in 2006, and he's still desperately searching for a first win and he hopes to get that at the expense of Varner come December.
The two lightweights will likely occupy a portion of the
preliminary card with the featured bouts for
UFC on Fox:
Pettis vs. Thomson already set for Dec 14 at the Sleep Train
Arena in Sacramento.
