UFC's Valentina Shevchenko unharmed after robbery shootout in Peru
UFC bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko was unharmed after being caught in the middle of a robbery shootout in Peru over the weekend.
Shevchenko's coach Pavel Fedotov was taken to the hospital after being shot during the melee after three robbers came into a chicken restaurant where the group was having dinner before the gunfire began.
According to an initial report from El Comercio via MMAFighting, three men showed up at the establishment in the Chorrillos and ordered employees to hand over money before taking the cell phones, purses and wallets from the patrons in the restaurant as well.
Two customers in the restaurant who were carrying firearms allegedly shot at the criminals as they exited and a gun fight began with at least 15 shots being fired. During the melee at least one of the criminals was killed and two customers were wounded — one of which was Shevchenko's coach.
UFC officials confirmed to FOX Sports on Tuesday that they were notified by Shevchenko's manager that she is "safe and unharmed" after the incident.
Shevchenko's coach was one of the men who fired at the criminals as they fled the scene and he took a bullet to the abdomen before being rushed to the hospital for treatment. He reportedly is expected to make a full recovery.
