UFC returns to Connecticut for the first time in nearly a decade

Published May. 31, 2014 7:00 p.m. ET

For the first time in nearly a decade, the UFC will return to Connecticut with a UFC Fight Night card headed to Ledyard, the site of the Foxwood Resort Casino on September 5.

UFC officials confirmed the new fight card on Saturday prior to UFC Fight Night: Miocic vs. Maldonado in Brazil.

In the earlier days of the UFC, Connecticut was one of the promotion's main stomping grounds as they routinely put on shows in the state, mainly in Uncasville where the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino is located.

Now for the first time since UFC 55, the fights will return to the Constitution state for a UFC Fight Night card in early September.  The main event that night was a heavyweight title fight where Andrei Arlovski finished Paul Buentello just 15 seconds into the very first round.

For the return to Connecticut, the UFC has yet to announce a main event although a headliner is expected to be added in the coming days.  Tickets go on sale for the card taking place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino on July 11.
