UFC: Nate Diaz Calls Out Conor McGregor for Trilogy Bout

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Nate Diaz has once again called out Conor McGregor for a potential third and final bout between two of the UFC’s bitterest of rivals.

Just when you think that the rivalry between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor has died down the two men are back at each others throats. The two men have fought twice with each one holding a win over the other. Diaz became the first man to beat McGregor in the UFC thanks to a second-round rear naked choke at UFC 196 back in March. McGregor evened the score with a majority decision win in what could be a fight of the year candidate in their rematch at UFC 202.

Post UFC 202 both men expressed interest in the third and deciding bout but during a recent fan Q&A on Facebook, McGregor spoke about the possibility of a trilogy bout.

“There was a lot of damage done to Nathan in that last fight,” McGregor said. “Even looking at his facial features, they are not the same so I know those close to him will understand what I’m talking about.

“There could be a potential fight maybe down the line for the lightweight belt after I win this. To see him have to make the weight and then to see the damage he took the last fight and then come in at a much lower weight, it wouldn’t end good for him. I’d imagine and I’d probably hope that his people close to him would stop him from doing it. It’s done now, cash your money and bounce.”

Now it seems like Nate Diaz could have potentially been watching the Q&A session as the long time veteran took to his Instagram to taunt the Irishman.

“I was ready for round three that night – were you?”, Diaz wrote under the picture.

While Diaz may want the trilogy fight as soon as possible he will have to wait at least until early next year as McGregor is looking to become the first fighter to simultaneously hold two UFC titles in two separate weight classes. The current 145-pound King is set to challenge the 155-pound King Eddie Alvarez for his title at UFC 205 in New York.
