UFC looking into Cub Swanson-Frankie Edgar, Swanson now open to it

Cub Swanson wanted to wait for a title shot. Now, it seems, he has changed his mind.

UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani reports that the UFC has talked about booking Swanson against Frankie Edgar next in a featherweight top contender bout. Edgar has wanted that fight -- and his manager Ali Abdel Aziz has been very vocal about it on social media. Swanson was hesitant at first, but Helwani reports that he has come around.

Swanson suggested November or December for the bout and Edgar said he would be ready for either one. Edgar wants it to be the main event of UFC Fight Night on FOX on Dec. 6 in Phoenix. There has also been talk about the two meeting at UFC Fight Night in Sweden on Oct. 4, but there's nothing done yet. Swanson is half-Swedish.

Speaking of the Sweden event, Helwani is reporting that Chan Sung Jung could make his triumphant return on that card against Akira Corassani, a Swedish fighter. "The Korean Zombie" has not fought since August 2013 when he badly injured his shoulder in a title fight against Jose Aldo.

Both of those fights would be significant in the featherweight division. Swanson is ranked No. 2 among 145-pound contenders and Edgar is No. 3. Jung, despite the absence, still stands at No. 6. Aldo meets No. 1 Chad Mendes for the title at UFC 179 on Oct. 25 in Rio de Janeiro.
