UFC 206: Nikita Krylov vs. Misha Cirkunov booked

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

A clash between two light heavyweight prospects, Nikita Krylov and Misha Cirkunov has been booked for UFC 206 in Toronto.

With UFC 206 going down in two months, the fight card is shaping up to be a great one. Just yesterday, on Wednesday, UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, announced on UFC Tonight that he’ll be facing Anthony Johnson, which will be his second title defense. It’s unclear whether it’s the main event, considering that many rumors are pointing to Georges St. Pierre taking that spot opposite of someone else.

Besides this fight, there’s been many other fights added to the card, including a flyweight bout between Zach Makovsky and John Moraga, and a lightweight bout between John Makdessi and Lando Vannata. Now, most recently, a matchup between to light heavyweight prospects has been booked for the event.

According to MMA Fighting, Nikita Krylov will face off against Misha Cirkunov. This fight is very interesting since the winner of this one will most likely face a top 10 opponent in the future.

Krylov has been on an absolute tear as of late. After losing to Ovince St. Preux at UFC 171, Krylov has gone on to win five straight and all of them have been finishes. Some notable opponents are Francimar Barroso and most recently, Ed Herman.

Cirkunov has also made quite the impression in his short UFC run. In his UFC debut, he knocked out Daniel Jolly in the first round and went on to win his next two fights against Alex Nicholson and Ion Cutelaba.

Some have argued that these two deserve a step up in competition and rightfully so, but this is a great fight to see where each fighter stands in their respective division. As stated before, a win for either fighter will set them up for an even bigger fight and with their talent, they can easily cause trouble for any top ranked fighter in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

UFC 206 will go down on Dec. 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
