UFC 205: Yoel Romero defeats Chris Weidman by TKO
Yoel Romero defeated Chris Weidman early in the third round by TKO with a flying knee, followed with multiple punches. Romero delivered a vicious shot to the former UFC middleweight champion.
Weidman was busted open with blood pouring from his face. Weidman seemed to have won the first round while Romero looked like he had the second.
But the biggest story came after the fight during Romero’s octagon interview with Joe Rogan. Madison Square Garden cameras showed UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, who is in attendance and covering the event for Fox Sports 1.
Bisping gave Romero two thumbs down, followed by a pair of middle fingers. Romero, who was receiving help from a translator during his interview, began speaking in English to talk to Bisping.
“You see the real champion,” Romero said to Bisping. “You know me.”
Bisping continuously flipped off Romero.

Bisping, who co-hosts “The Countodwn” with Luis Gomez on Sirius XM Rush, said he was rooting for Weidman because he wanted to fight him for the middleweight title. He said he is not open to the idea of fighting Romero because he was on steroids, adding that it can take a while for the steroids to wear off from one’s body.
Romero is now 13-1 after defeating one of the top contenders in the division. He has not lost a fight in the UFC in his eight matches. It’s been 11 months since Romero’s most recent fight, which came at UFC 194 in a split decision victory over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
It is uncertain if Bisping would defend his title against Romero next. But Romero may be the most qualified right now as Luke Rockhold’s match against Souza has been cancelled.
Bisping had interest in fighting only Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz at UFC 206, as he explained on his radio show. But neither of those fights came to fruition, Bisping said he’d like to have his next match sometime in the spring in 2017.
Either way, Romero has climbed in the rankings of the division and is inching closer to an opportunity at the middleweight championship.
