TUF winners McGee, Gastelum face off

Published Sep. 19, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

There will be no slow ride towards the top for Kelvin Gastelum. The Ultimate Fighter season 17 winner has been matched up with Court McGee at UFC On FOX 9, the promotion announced on Thursday.

McGee, who is 7-0 overall, recently won his welterweight debut, stopping Brian Melancon with a first-round rear naked choke submission. Despite a lack of seasoning, Gastelum will be thrown into the fire against McGee, who won TUF’s season 11 back in 2010.

McGee, a Utah native, holds a 16-3 overall record and is 5-2 in the Octagon, with consecutive wins over Robert Whittaker and Josh Neer. He’s known for his conditioning and voluminous output.

The McGee-Gastelum bout is just the latest in a series of fight announcements that have stacked the Dec. 14 event with talent.

The event, which takes place at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, is headlined by UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis putting his belt on the line against Josh Thomson. Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald and Carlos Condit vs. Matt Brown are among the major matchups set for the night.
