Tony Martin gets new opponent for UFC Fight Night 103

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

UFC Lightweight Alex White replaces an injured Erik Koch at UFC Fight Night 103 against Tony Martin.

An injury has removed lightweight Erik Koch (15-4) from a UFC Fight Night 103 bout against Tony Martin (10-3). Taking his place with just five weeks until the fight is Alex White (11-2).

Martin revealed the opponent change through a Twitter post today, and MMAJunkie.com confirmed announcement with his management team soon after.

UFC Fight Night 103 goes down at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. on Jan. 15. The event will broadcast live on FS1 after the early prelims stream on UFC Fight Pass. UFC officials have not yet announced an official bout order.

Martin has not made many appearances inside the octagon over the past couple years. He last competed at UFC on FOX 18 in January, submitting Felipe Olivieri in the third round via rear-naked choke. Prior to that bout, Martin had not fought since a March 2015 submission loss to Leondro Santos at UFC Fight Night 62. He was expected to face Michael Pzazeres at UFC on FOX 20 last July, but he was forced to withdraw due to a neck injury. Overall, Martin is 2-3 under the UFC banner.

His new opponent, White, has also been out of the cage for quite a while. Injury removed him from a planned July bout against The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 winner Ryan Hall at UFC Fight Night 91. White, who usually competes at featherweight, most recently fought to a unanimous decision win over Artem Lobov in February at UFC Fight Night 82. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak dating back to July 2014 that includes a knockout loss to Lucas Martins and decision loss to Clay Collard, respectively.

The Missouri native’s entrance into the UFC was an impressive one, though. Martin knocked out Estevan Payan in the first round at UFC on FOX 11 to earn himself a Performance of the Night bonus.
