Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero added to UFC 178 in Las Vegas

An intriguing middleweight bout has been added to the upcoming UFC 178 card in Las Vegas as Tim Kennedy looks to keep his winning streak alive when he faces fellow former Strikeforce fighter and Olympic silver medalist Yoel Romero on September 27.
UFC officials confirmed the bout on Tuesday with the original report coming from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Currently on a wave of four wins in a row, Kennedy (18-4) will look to take one more step towards the ultimate goal of earning a middleweight title bout when he returns in late September. The decorated Army veteran has been on a roll of late with wins over Rafael Natal and Michael Bisping with a slow and steady climb up the top 10 rankings.
Now Kennedy will face one of the most accomplished wrestlers to ever step foot inside the Octagon as he tries to maintain his position in the division.
Romero (8-1) is an Olympic silver medalist from Cuba, who has become one of the most talked about prospects in the middleweight division over the past year. He's also picked up four wins in a row with names such as Derek Brunson and Brad Tavares decorating his resume.
This will be a decided step up in competition, however, as Romero hasn't faced a top 10 fighter at 185-pounds until drawing Kennedy for this fight.
UFC 178 will take place on Sept. 27 from Las Vegas with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones facing Alexander Gustafsson in the night's main event. A venue for the card has yet to be announced.
