Reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will have to continue his Tekken-like tactics on July 6. The Spider faces a formidable foe in #1 contender Chris Weidman, the undefeated former NCAA All-American wrestler coming off a picture-perfect elbow KO over Mark Munoz at UFC On FUEL TV 4.
Even UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who isn't known for hyperbole, has predicted a Weidman win: "I believe he's going to beat Anderson Silva. It's a bad matchup for Anderson. It's very bad." GSP has a point: Weidman has averaged 4.47 takedowns per 15 minutes, the highest stat in the middleweight division.
Silva believes stand-up to be Weidman's glaring weakness, but the numbers tell a different story. The "All-American" has outstruck every UFC opponent he's faced, including 45-to-27 against Alessio Sakara and a staggering 27-to-0 versus Munoz.
