Shields hits Sao Paulo Market

Published Oct. 4, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

On a promotional trip to Sao Paulo to promote his fight with Demian Maia earlier this summer, UFC welterweight contender Jake Shields joined UFC Brazil correspondent Paula Sack for a trip through the Farmer’s Market.

Shields, who is a vegan and has appeared in print and video ads, and even a fun, addictive, 8-bit game called Cage Fight: Knock Out Animal Cruelty on behalf of PETA, makes his way through the bustling market, stopping to sample various local fruits and cheeses before sitting down for some traditional Brazilian coffee.

Wednesday night, the fans that stopped to take pictures with the former Strikeforce middleweight champion will be cheering against the San Francisco native, as Shields steps in the cage with Sao Paulo’s own Demian Maia in a bout that will put the winner in title contention in the welterweight division.

Check out the clip and be sure to tune in to UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields this Wednesday night on Fox Sports 1. Preliminary card coverage begins at 5:00 PM ET, with the main card starting at 7:00 PM ET.

If you can’t watch the fights, FoxSports.com will have a live blog of the event bringing you round-by-round coverage from the opening bout of the evening through to the conclusion of the main event.
