Ronda Rousey 'really (expletive) sad' following loss to Holly Holm
Since losing her title to Holly Holm at UFC 193, Ronda Rousey hasn't had spoken publicly. But she's finally talking in a new interview where she reveals it might be six months before she's able to eat regularly much less take a punch.
Rousey took part in the year-end ESPN the Magazine issue and spoke about her loss to Holm for the first time, admitting that the entire ordeal made her "really f--king sad."
Following the loss, Rousey was transported to a local Australia hospital, where UFC president Dana White brought in a plastic surgeon to sew up her busted lip, which was compounded by her mouth and jaw getting rattled from the head kick courtesy of Holm.
"It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact," Rousey said in the interview published by People.
There were rumors following the fight that Rousey suffered a broken jaw as a result of the knockout but according to the former champion it was just a few of her teeth that were dislodged as a result of the head kick.
Now back at home in California, Rousey is beginning to look towards the future again -- one where she's a contender instead of a champion. A future where she can no longer retire undefeated.
On top of her fight commitments, Rousey also has a slew of film projects coming up in 2016, including the remake of the Patrick Swayze movie "Road House" as well as "Mile 22" where she's set to star alongside Mark Wahlberg.
Rousey knows now that her goals in MMA have shifted following the loss to Holm, but that doesn't mean she's giving up just yet.
"Maybe I can't do it all before my prime, before my body is done," Rousey said. "But f--k it, maybe I can."
Since her loss to Holm in early November, Rousey has dealt with tremendous backlash for her comments before the fight where she said things like "no one has the right to beat me" and seemingly discounting her opponent as if it was already a forgone conclusion that she would win.
Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber took shots at Rousey following the loss and even presidential candidate Donald Trump blasted the former champion while he celebrated her defeat because she's "not a nice person."
Rousey says those comments are only going to make her charge that much harder at coming back better than ever and she's not planning to change who she is just to appease the mass audience.
Rousey will be just as opinionated for her next fight as she was for the last one and she doesn't really give a damn what anyone thinks about it.
"Most people get scared away from having an opinion," Rousey said. "It's not so much my opinions everybody relates to, it's that I don't care about being punished for it."
