Ricardo Lamas finishes Charles Oliveira with slick guillotine choke
Ricardo Lamas wanted nothing more than to fight on Saturday night despite his opponent Charles Oliveira missing weight by nearly 10 pounds.
Lamas already missed out of competing a couple of weeks ago when UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn was forced to pull out of their fight, which eventually led to the entire event being cancelled.
So when the opportunity came to face Oliveira on short notice, Lamas jumped on the chance but had no idea his opponent would come in massively over weight, which could have easily forced him to cancel the bout.
Instead, Lamas stayed in the fight but it nearly cost him in the first round after Oliveira came out aggressive and nearly locked up a submission.
Oliveira grabbed onto a D'arce choke before falling to the ground to lock up the submission, but Lamas somehow stayed calm before wiggling free. Oliveira's assault didn't stop there, however, as he quickly latched onto Lamas' back and started looking for a rear naked choke.
Time ran out before Oliveira could get the finish and that ultimately cost him going into the second round.
Lamas reversed a takedown attempt from Oliveira but once he saw the Brazilian's neck exposed, he quickly grabbed onto a guillotine choke and fell back into his guard. Lamas had Oliveira trapped against the cage before putting pressure on the neck that forced him to tap out from the submission.
The stoppage came at 2:13 into the second round.
After the fight was over, Lamas dedicated his performance to his mother, who is currently battling cancer, as well as one of his teammates who recently passed away. Lamas also gets back in the win column after a tough loss in his last fight in June while defeating another top 10 featherweight in Oliveira.
Lamas taps out one of the most dangerous submission artists in the game today! Well done @RicardoLamasMMA ? https://t.co/NPtBY94BPe
