Report: Joanna Jedrzejczyk to defend title against Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205


UFC 205 has added the strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz
UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will look to defend her title once again as she she’s square off against fellow Polish standout Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden.
The champion had been teasing a recently signed bout earlier this week. FloCombat would later confirm the rumors.
Jedrzejczyk (12-0) was last seen defending her title with a decision win over longtime rival Claudia Gadelha at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale in July. This marked her second win over her Brazilian counterpart after defeating her at UFC on FOX 13 in 2014.
Prior to her most recent win, ‘JJ’ put on a striking clinic against former Invicta FC atomweight champion Jessica Penne at UFC Fight Night 69 en route to a violent third round TKO. She followed this up a decision over Valerie Letourneau.
Kowalkiewicz (10-0), a former KSW Women’s flyweight champion, last earned a narrow split decision over former title challenger Rose Namajunas at UFC 201 in July.
Almost immiedatly after her victory, Kowalkiewicz called out the champion.
“I want the fight with Joanna,” said Kowalkiewicz during the UFC 201 post-fight press conference. “I am ready for her. She said that I’m not on her level. I think that I am good enough to fight with her. I want a fight with her. Let’s do this. Polish power versus Polish power.”
Prior to this win she earned back-to-back decision over She most recelty earned a decision over Randa Markos in December and Heather Jo Clark in May.
UFC 205 will go down on November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This historic event will mark the UFC’s first event in the State of New York.
