Manager: Alexander Gustafsson willing to fight again before title shot
It appears Alexander Gustafsson and his management aren't exactly on the same page when it comes to his next move in the UFC.
Gustafsson just recently posted on Facebook that he spoke to UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta and was guaranteed he could face the winner of Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier if he wanted to sit out and wait to fight again. In addition to the fight, Gustafsson was also told there's a chance the fight could take place in his home country of Sweden.
With all signs pointing towards Gustafsson sitting and waiting for his shot, his manager Manos Terzitaine tells UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that his fighter isn't worried much anymore about whether he fights again or waits for a title shot.
Conflicting ideas for sure, but it does at least open the door to the possibility of Gustafsson facing fellow top 10 ranked light heavyweight Anthony Johnson later this year.
UFC president Dana White has stated on several occasions that a fight between Gustafsson and Johnson 'makes sense' but up till now the Swede has preferred to wait for a title shot after losing out on his chance when a knee injury forced him to delay his originally scheduled bout against Jon Jones.
Johnson's manager Glenn Robinson says they are very interested in taking the fight with Gustafsson, but have not officially been offered anything yet.
It seems like everyone is in a holding pattern for now, but what once seemed like a closed subject now appears to be open again with Gustafsson vs. Johnson being back on the table.
