Listen to Misha Cirkunov pop Alex Nicholson's jaw with vicious neck crank
Misha Cirkunov pulled off an impressive win in his UFC debut with a second-round neck crank that popped Alex Nicholson's jaw out of socket, forcing the tap out.
Cirkunov looked good throughout the fight, but it was the neck crank/rear-naked choke that ended the contest as Nicholson's head contorted to the side before his jaw popped, and a tap out came just seconds later.
Nicholson had stated before the fight that his jaw had been broken previously, so it likely left him susceptible to the same injury happening again, but no one could have predicted he would have ended up in that position for the finish.
WARNING GRAPHIC SOUND:
"He got my neck and he's so strong, I've broken my jaw before and I heard it pop and I really didn't want my jaw wired shut again so I tapped even though I never tap," Nicholson said after the fight.
The sickening sound of Nicholson's jaw popping was captured on the replay and it's one of those moments that just can't be unheard.
Cirkunov has been rated as one of the best prospects joining the UFC roster in recent months, and now he's picked up his first victory in the Octagon.
As for Nicholson, the good news is his jaw didn't ultimately end up broken, but he still suffered a tough loss in his debut. If there's an upside to the weekend for Nicholson, he did propose to his girlfriend at the weigh-ins on Friday and she said yes so he might leave Las Vegas with a loss but still has his new fiancé there for support.
