Kikuno vs Mulhern meet in Singapore

Published Nov. 4, 2013 3:58 p.m. ET

A new fight is being added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night card headed to Singapore on Jan. 4 as Katsunori Kikuno will make his Octagon debut against former Strikeforce competitor Quinn Mulhern.

Sources close to the fight confirmed to FOX Sports that verbal agreements are in place for the upcoming lightweight matchup.

A former champion of the DEEP promotion in Japan, Kikuno signed with the UFC just recently and comes into the promotion riding a five-fight win streak.

A veteran of more than 25 fights, Kikuno has faced some stiff competition over the years fighting in various promotions in and around Asia including DREAM and DEEP for the biggest part of his career.

Now he will get the biggest test possible as he debuts in the UFC at 32 years of age looking to make an immediate impact in the lightweight division.

Welcoming Kikuno to the UFC will be Quinn Mulhern, who makes his second appearance in the promotion after debuting at welterweight earlier this year. Mulhern lost in his initial fight in the UFC against Rick Story, but now fighting at a more natural weight he will look to rebound when he faces Kikuno in January.

The UFC Fight Night card in Singapore hasn't officially been announced by the promotion, but they are expected to travel to the area for the first time ever in January in a show headlined by welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine
