Jon Anik pays off Nate Diaz bet with a new '209' tattoo
No one will ever accuse Jon Anik of not living up to his word.
The UFC play-by-play man made an off-the-cuff remark ahead of last weekend's card in Las Vegas that if Nate Diaz defeated Conor McGregor, he would get a "209" tattoo to commemorate the victory.
On Thursday, Anik officially paid up with a "209" tattoo proudly inked onto his body.
"209" is the area code for Diaz's hometown of Stockton, Calif., and a battle cry for the former "Ultimate Fighter" winner before and after many of his fights inside the Octagon.
When Anik first mentioned the bet, Diaz took it as a slight against his chances of winning and expressed his displeasure with the UFC commentator at the pre-fight press conference.
"[Expletive] Jon Anik," Diaz shouted when his name came up.
Diaz lived up his part of the bargain when he submitted McGregor in the second round of their fight at UFC 196 with a rear naked choke.
As happy as Diaz was to beat McGregor and get the biggest payday of his UFC career, he didn't forget Anik once the fight was over.
"Jon Anik better get a [expletive] 209 tattoo or I'm going to whoop his little ass," Diaz said following his win.
Well, Anik can rest easy knowing that he'll no longer have to look over his shoulder for a Diaz brother after getting his "209" tattoo inked on Thursday.
