Joanna Jedrzejczyk gets championship homecoming in Poland
At UFC 185 last weekend, Joanna Jedrzejczyk became the new women's strawweight champion after punishing Carla Esparza for the better part of two rounds en route to a TKO victory to claim the title.
The win moved Jedrzejczyk to 9-0 overall in her career as well as 3-0 in the UFC as she becomes the promotion's second-ever strawweight champion.
Jedrzejczyk also becomes the first UFC champion hailing from Poland and after her victory, the new champion said one of her happiest moments would be returning home with her title in tow.
Actually, Jedrzejczyk joins only a handful of former UFC champions to come from Europe, so when she finally landed back in Poland this week, she was greeted with a huge ovation from a crowd of supporters, including her nearest and dearest who gathered to welcome her home.
The championship homecoming was a well-deserved celebration for Jedrzejczyk, who called her shot against Esparza in the weeks leading up to the bout and then followed through with flawless execution, dismantling the former Ultimate Fighter winner in quick fashion.
Jedrzejczyk will enjoy some more championship treatment in the next few weeks when she attends the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Poland, where there will certainly be a crowd full of locals looking to celebrate with their native champion.
