'Jacare' Souza out with pneumonia, fight with Yoel Romero scrapped
A stacked UFC 184 card has lost a featured fight after middleweight contender Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza came down with a bout of pneumonia, forcing him out of his scheduled matchup with fellow top 10 fighter Yoel Romero.
UFC officials made the announcement on Thursday.
With Jacare sidelined, the UFC has opted to pull Romero from the card as well and keep the fight intact with a new date to be scheduled down the road once the Brazilian contender is healthy again.
Now that Jacare and Romero are out, the UFC has shifted the newly announced lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Yancy Medeiros will take their place on the main card for UFC 184 airing on pay-per-view on February 28.
The card is headlined by a two title fights as Chris Weidman puts his middleweight championship on the line against Vitor Belfort while women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey faces off with Cat Zingano.
