Illness forces Ian McCall to withdraw from UFC 208
Ian McCall withdraws from UFC 208 due to illness.
“Uncle Creepy” Ian McCall has withdrawn due to illness from UFC 208, hours before the event was scheduled to begin. McCall was scheduled to face Jarred Brooks. But that bout will have to be rescheduled to another event.
In a statement, the UFC announced that McCall was transported to a local hospital with gastrointestinal issues. After doctor recommendations, McCall withdrew from the card. The UFC will continue the 208 card with the other 10 schedule fights.
The California born fighter, McCall had not fought since January 2015. At UFC 183, McCall was defeated by John Lineker by unanimous decision. In his career, McCall holds a 13-5-1 record with four knockout and three submission victories.
McCall has been struck by bad luck over the past two years. Injury forced McCall to withdraw from an August 2015 UFC card. In July 2016, McCall was scheduled to face Justin Scoggins. But Scoggins was forced to pull out after failing to make weight. In September 2016, McCall and Ray Borg were scheduled to fight at UFC 203. But Borg was forced to pull out with injury. Two months later, McCall and Neil Seery were schedule to fight. But McCall was forced to pull out of the event with an illness.
No immediate decision was made by the UFC on rescheduling the McCall and Brooks fight. In the past when a fighter has been forced to pull out at the last minute, the UFC has rescheduled the fight for the next show. But with no announcement, the McCall Brooks fight may never happen.
Despite having not fought in over two years, McCall is still the UFC’s sixth ranked fighter in the flyweight division. Jarred Brooks entered UFC 208 ranked outside of the UFC’s top 15 fighters in the flyweight division. Despite the rankings, Brooks was a -120 favorite. McCall was a +110 underdog in his return to the octagon.
