Henry Cejudo forced off UFC 177 due to medical reasons

Published Aug. 29, 2014 3:09 p.m. ET

UFC 177 is down a fight after the preliminary bout between 2008 Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo and Scott Jorgensen was yanked from the card on Friday.  UFC officials stated the Cejudo was pulled due to medical reasons.

Additional sources speaking to FOX Sports on Friday stated that Cejudo was struggling with making weight for his fight with Jorgensen, and it seems as if medical personnel were concerned enough to pull him from the card entirely.

Cejudo has had problems with cutting weight previously, missing the mark in past fights since debuting in MMA after retiring from wrestling in 2012.

His debut was set to mark the third time in UFC history that an American Olympic gold medalist in wrestling fought inside the Octagon and Cejudo's debut would have been the first since Kevin Jackson fought in 1998.

Now it appears that plan will be derailed as Cejudo will have to go back to the drawing board after being pulled from UFC 177 on Saturday night. The fight card from Sacramento will push forward with nine bouts now.
