Since Matt Hughes won the UFC welterweight belt in 2001, the division has almost exclusively been ruled by grapplers. A new day dawns at UFC 171 when Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler meet, nearly guaranteeing a shift to a champion reliant on striking above all else.
It's a fascinating matchup, a pair of southpaw bombers with one-punch power and the courage to anchor themselves in the pocket. Lawler's sudden resurgence makes him a sentimental favorite, but most of the fight world felt Hendricks was robbed last November against Georges St-Pierre, and the Oklahoman feels destined to right the wrong.
