Guillard misses weight for UFC 150
Lightweight champ Benson Henderson and challenger Frankie Edgar and had no problems making weight Friday for their headlining UFC 150 bout at Pepsi Center, but that wasn’t the case for the fight that directly precedes them.
Melvin Guillard, who faces Donald Cerrone in Saturday’s co-main event, tipped the scales at 157.5 pounds, a pound-and-a-half greater than the UFC lightweight limit. He had up to two hours to attempt to make weight, although Guillard opted not to try.
“It was a mutual decision,” Colorado State Boxing Commission director Josef Mason told FOXSports.com. “Neither the commission nor (Guillard) felt the weight could be cut safely in such a short amount of time.”
Guillard’s failure to make the weight will likely cost the fighter between 10 and 20 percent of his purse. He was the only fighter from Saturday’s pay-per-view card or the undercard — much can be seen on FX — that didn't make weight.
Henderson came in at 154.4 and Edgar stepped on the scales at 154.6 on the eve of the rematch of their February bout that went the distance and resulted in a unanimous victory for Henderson.
“I feel great, Denver,” Edgar yelled to the crowd after he stepped off the scale. “We’re ready to fight our butts off for you.”
