Greg Hardy to the UFC? Dana White Says He is Interested
Controversial ex-NFL star Greg Hardy may have just got some good news regarding his future in mma thanks to UFC president Dana White.
Earlier this week it was announced that former defensive NFL star Greg Hardy would be transitioning from the gridiron to the cage as he is set to put his football career on hold in order to pursue a new career in mixed martial arts.
The 28-year old was an elite player on the defensive side of the football for the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys but due to some off the field run ins with the law, Hardy saw his promising NFL career get flushed down the drain.
In 2014, Hardy was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder was sentenced to 18-months probation as well as a suspended 60-days in jail. The charges where however dismissed on appeal as Holder failed to appear in court for the jury trail. While the case may have been dismissed the details of the assault resulted in Hardy going unsigned during the 2016 free agency period.
While many including Fox Sports Jay Glazer called for the mixed martial arts community to blackball Hardy from even attempting to begin his new career, UFC president Dana White was open to the idea of one day signing Hardy to the promotion.
“I’m one of those guys too who believes that we’re all human being and we all make mistakes,” White said on FS1’s Speak for Yourself. “And when you make a mistake, you pay your penance, whatever it might be, and you should be allowed to make a living and move on in your life. Is he good enough to come to the UFC and fight? I highly doubt it.”
“I’ve been playing football for a couple of weeks too, maybe I’ll try out for the New England Patriots. It takes a little bit longer than that, but he could fight at one of these small shows. We’ll see how he looks.”
There is no doubting the athletic ability held by Hardy as he has proved to be a force to be reckoned with numerous times while on the football field. Fighting and football are two very different things but should Hardy get the opportunity to step inside a cage it will be interesting to see what he is made of and how he handles himself in the heat of a fight.
