Former UFC champ Shane Carwin knocks out radio host with one arm (Video)
Shane Carwin made his return to combat sports last night, knocking out radio host Jason Ellis with one arm tied down with duct tape.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Shane Carwin is back to sending opponents to the shadow realm, courtesy of his lunch box-sized fists.
Over the weekend, the Denver native took part in an event that was billed Ellismania 13, which was hosted by professional skateboarder and radio host Jason Ellis.
In the featured exhibition contest, the hulking Carwin agreed to tie one arm down with duct tape and challenge Ellis inside a boxing ring. While Ellis did manage to last into the second round, Carwin eventually turned the 41-year-old’s lights out with a devastating left hook to the temple.
In terms of actual competition, Carwin (12-2) has not been inside the Octagon since announcing his retirement following his decision loss to former champion Junior dos Santos back in 2011.
Kicking off his career in 2005, Carwin rattled off eight straight first round knockout victories before getting the call from the UFC. He would then pick up right where he left off, scoring first round finishes in his first four UFC bouts against Sherman Pendergarst, Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain and Gabriel Gonzaga.
His reign of terror culminated in the UFC’s interim heavyweight title, which he earned after mauling former champ Frank Mir at UFC 111.
However, Carwin failed to earn the undisputed title against then champion Brock Lesnar after succumbing to fatigue in the first round of their UFC 116 matchup in 2010. Lesnar capitalized with a thrilling second round submission, defending his belt in the process.
After a year-long layoff, Carwin attempted and failed to get back into the win column against Dos Santos. While he was tied to a potential fight against Roy Nelson, even coaching opposite him during Season 16 of The Ultimate Fighter, Carwin pulled out of the fight after suffering a knee injury in training camp.
But earlier this year, Carwin announced his intention to return to competition. While he initially revealed he hoped to talk with with UFC matchmaker Joe Silva regarding his return, Carwin later claimed he planned on testing the waters of free agency.
