Ex-hockey pro Steve Bosse faces Fabio Maldonado at UFC 186
Former semi-professional hockey player turned mixed martial artist Steve Bosse will come out of retirement to face Fabio Maldonado at UFC 186 in Montreal after Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson was forced off the card due to a legal injunction filed against the fighter recently was granted by a New Jersey judge.
For those unfamiliar with Bosse, he was a well-known hockey enforcer during his days on the ice where he was involved in over 200 fights over the course of his career.
Following the close of his days playing hockey, Bosse decided to try his hand at MMA, where he amassed a record of 10-1 -- including wins over UFC veterans Houston Alexander, Marvin Eastman and Wes Sims.
Bosse was actually signed to the UFC and was expected to debut at "The Ultimate Fighter: Nations" finale last year, but a shoulder injury forced him off the card. Days later he decided to retire from the sport altogether due to mounting injuries that occurred throughout his professional career.
A year off and an opportunity to fight close to home in Montreal apparently changed Bosse's mind as he will step up on just over two week's notice to debut in the UFC against heavy-handed Brazilian slugger Maldonado.
Maldonado is known for knockout power and an incredibly durable chin so chances are he'll be more than happy to stand toe-to-toe with the former hockey goon until one of them falls over.
The new light heavyweight matchup joins the UFC 186 fight card headlined by flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who faces Kyoji Horiguchi in the five-round featured bout at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
