Dong Hyun Kim steps in to face Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 207

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After a few match-up switches, Tarec Saffiedine gets a new opponent for his fight at UFC 207 in Las Vegas.  Dong Hyun Kim has reportedly agreed to step in and replace Matt Brown.

The UFC has been playing a game of mix and match over the past week. They have been trying to sort out a few undetermined fights that are scheduled for the rest of 2016.  As a result of Kelvin Gastelum missing weight at UFC 205, there was a domino effect of replacement fighters needed and switching of opponents.  Due to the fact that Gastelum could not fight on Saturday night at UFC 205, left his opponent Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone needing a new fight.  That very same day the UFC announced that Cowboy will be taking on Matt Brown in Toronto at UFC 206.

Matt Brown was already scheduled to fight Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 207, which now left him needing a new dance partner.  Today reports came from Jim Edwards at FloCombat that Dong Hyun Kim will be stepping in to replace Matt Brown in Las Vegas.  Kim was scheduled to fight Gunner Nelson this coming weekend at UFC Fight Night 99, unfortunately, Nelson was forced to withdraw from that bout due to injury.

Kim is coming into this match-up with Saffiedine having won his last two fights. His most recent fight was over a year ago.  He is currently ranked tenth in the UFC official rankings. Saffiedine is currently ranked thirteenth, and is coming off of a loss to the veteran Rick Story at UFC Fight Night 88 in May.  This is a big opportunity for Saffiedine to face a top ten opponent. Perhaps with a win, he can move into the top ten as well.

This event takes place on December 30, 2016, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.  This event is headlined by a bantamweight match-up between Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey. The main event can be seen on PPV, with the prelims on FS1.
