Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 headlines UFC 197 on April 23 in Las Vegas

Published Feb. 6, 2016 10:30 p.m. ET

The long-awaited rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title is finally set for UFC 197 on April 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight was confirmed during Saturday night's broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson on FS1.

The rematch pitting Cormier against Jones comes 15 months after their first meeting at UFC 182 in January 2015. On that night, Jones won a unanimous decision to hand Cormier the first loss of his MMA career while defending his light heavyweight title.

Unfortunately, Jones' career hit the skids a few months later after an arrest on hit-and-run charges forced the UFC to issue a suspension and strip him of the title.

In his absence, Cormier went on to claim the vacant title by defeating Anthony Johnson and then defending the belt against Alexander Gustafsson last October at UFC 192.

Jones was eventually reinstated to the UFC just before Cormier's first title defense and now the former champion will attempt to reclaim the belt he never lost while facing his biggest rival since joining the UFC.

Jones and Cormier certainly have no love lost for each other, and this rematch will likely be one of the most highly anticipated fights in all 2016.

UFC 197 will add more fights in the coming days to join Cormier vs. Jones 2 in April.
