Dana White, Mike Tyson react to Ronda Rousey's suicide comments
Ronda Rousey admitted on Tuesday that in the moments following her loss to Holly Holm last November that she actually had suicidal thoughts while trying to figure out what she would be if she was no longer the most dominant athlete on the planet.
As shocking as the statement may seem, Rousey's promoter and a former boxing legend both say that it's just a snapshot in time of a very downtrodden moment -- but that the former champion will be back to form in no time.
UFC president Dana White told TMZ just after Rousey's comments went public that he's not concerned about her mental health and ultimately the feeling that she thought about killing herself stemmed from suffering the first loss of her MMA career.
"Trust me, she's good right now and in a great place. Winners don't like to lose," White said.
"I have never worked an athlete like her! She is f--king amazing in every way."
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has also become friends with Rousey over the last few years -- and he knows firsthand how devastating a defeat can be to a fighter's mind after spending weeks or months to prepare only to watch it all come crumbling down in a matter of minutes.
Tyson says Rousey's explanation about contemplating suicide is really just being a prisoner of the moment and eventually that moment passes.
"No, it's just a moment in time. She doesn't feel that way now," Tyson said.
When asked if he personally suffered through those kinds of bad thoughts after a loss, Tyson smiled and said those feelings aren't exclusive to defeat.
"I have bad thoughts after a win!" Tyson joked.
Rousey has since picked herself up from the loss and she's stated that there will be a rematch with Holm in the future where she'll have the chance to avenge the defeat and "make everything right again."
