Cris Cyborg: 'I watched Rousey do shadow box and the shadow won'
Cris Cyborg continues to let the world know that she’s skeptical she will ever face off against Ronda Rousey in the Octagon.
Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg are embattled in a feud that will go down as one of the best in mixed martial arts history; even if they never step into the cage. Until one of them leaves the sport, speculation will surround the idea of a fight between these two stars. Cyborg recently spoke with Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports 1 and continued her verbal assault on the former champion.
“Ronda doesn’t say anything,” Cyborg said while talking to Whitlock on ‘Speak for Yourself,’ “She doesn’t even say my name. She used Dana White and her mother to talk to me, because she knows if she says my name, she’ll have to fight me. She knows this.”
The rumor of a fight between these two will not go away. UFC President, Dana White, continues to talk about the fight; most recently being last month.
“I think in a perfect world, what everybody would love to see is Ronda vs. Cyborg, so everybody is waiting — I’m sure Cyborg is, too — is the return of Ronda Rousey,” White said as reported by Jed Meshew of MMAFighting. “When she does return, I’m sure [Rousey is] gonna want to fight for the title, probably defend it and then maybe fight Cyborg. I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out.”
Rousey’s return is a much-anticipated topic that continues to haunt the UFC. At one point in time it was expected that she would return at some point during the fourth quarter of 2016; especially as the mega-event of UFC 205 is set for Madison Square Garden. However, as time passed, it became more apparent that the former champion is further away from a return than many expected. According to her coach Edmond Tarverdyan, that time isn’t quite here.
“You’ve asked [when she’ll fight] before, and made people very upset,” Tarverdyan said as reported by Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times. “Wait two more months.”
Until then, Cyborg will continue to let the world know what she thinks about Rousey and the potential of facing her in the cage.
“I watched her do shadow box and the shadow won,” she said. “Maybe that means when Mike Tyson lose his fight by KO, he never the same. Maybe it means that Ronda lost her last fight and she’s never the same. But not because she KOs people. She never did this.”
