Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver headlines the UFC's return to Boston

The UFC is shipping up to Boston with an Irish superstar headlining the card.
Following a huge event at TD Garden for the launch of FOX Sports 1 in 2013, the UFC is returning to Boston for another show on Sunday, January 18 with Conor McGregor set to fight in the five round main event against Dennis Siver.
UFC officials confirmed the new fight card and main event on Friday.
McGregor (16-2) was originally expected to sit out until at least after UFC 179 on Saturday night where he may have drawn the winner of the main event title fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. Never one to turn down an opportunity to make some money and headline an event, McGregor will return to action while fighting in the city with the largest population of people coming from Irish heritage in the United States.
The last time McGregor fought in Boston was for his win over Max Hollway where he was greeted with a heroes welcome. Now he gets the chance to main event a show in Boston while likely cementing his spot as the No. 1 contender in the featherweight division.
There's certainly no love lost between McGregor and his opponent Dennis Siver (22-9, 1 NC) after the two recently exchanged barbs on social media. Siver most recently defeated UFC newcomer Charles Rosa at UFC Fight Night: Nelson vs. Story in Sweden following a nine-month suspension after testing positive for hCG, an illegal performance enhancing drug.
Siver is 3-1 with one no contest in his last four fights while McGregor is undefeated in the UFC with a perfect 3-0 record.
With McGregor vs. Siver as the main event all signs are pointing towards a lightweight showdown between Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone and Myles Jury potentially joining the show as a co-main event although no decisions have been made at this time confirming the fight.
It's also noteworthy that the UFC will run a card on a Sunday as opposed to the normal Saturday night cards. The UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver fight card will air on FOX Sports 1, directly after the finish of the NFC Championship game on FOX.
