Conor McGregor opens as heavy betting favorite over Nate Diaz at UFC 196

Conor McGregor is moving up two weight classes for his main event fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 196, but that doesn't mean he's not a heavy favorite to walk away with another victory.

According to the oddsmakers at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas -- where the fight is taking place -- courtesy of Bovada.LV, McGregor opened as a 3-to-1 favorite over Diaz in the first betting line released for the upcoming fight.

McGregor sits comfortably at a -350 favorite while Diaz maintains underdog status with +260 odds coming back on him.

It's an interesting twist in an already crazy week for McGregor, who was already moving up a division with his scheduled fight against lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Despite a move up a weight class while facing the best fighter in the world at 155 pounds, McGregor was still the favorite over dos Anjos although the odds were much closer than the new bout he's booked against Diaz.

Now McGregor jumps all the way to 170 pounds for his fight on March 5 in Las Vegas against Diaz, who has several wins under his belt in the UFC as a welterweight.

Still, McGregor will enjoy a hefty betting line in his favor as he looks to get another big win next Saturday night while adding onto his already growing legacy as one of the most game fighters in the sport, willing to face anyone, anywhere at any time and apparently at any weight class.
