Chas Skelly makes quick work of Tom Niinimaki in Tulsa
Following a disappointing debut in the UFC, Chas Skelly came back in a big way for his second bout, putting away Tom Niinimaki in the first round with a rear naked choke.
Skelly, who was a high school wrestling champion in Texas, wasted no time coming out and putting Niinimaki on the defensive with his aggressive takedown attack. Skelly took the Finnish fighter's back and started fishing for submissions immediately.
Niinimaki was able to slip out the first time and actually went for a guillotine choke of his own, but Skelly wasn't in any trouble and made a quick transition to get his opponent's back again in a hurry.
Once he got his legs wrapped around Niinimaki, Skelly slipped his arm around his opponent's head as they fell to the side on the ground. Skelly couldn't quite get his arm under Niinimaki's chin, but it didn't matter because the tremendous pressure he was putting on the jaw while cranking the neck was enough to get the tap.
Skelly admitted following the fight that his first performance didn't show was he was capable of doing insie the Octagon, but this was a much clearer vision of what he can do when he's on his game.
"My first fight I didn't press the action like I normally do," Skelly said after his first UFC win. "If you sign to fight me, just know you're signing for a fight."
Skelly moves to 1-1 in the Octagon while Niinimake falls to 0-2 in his last two fights with both defeats coming by way of rear naked choke.
