Charles Oliveira out of fight with Nik Lentz one day after missing weight

LEDYARD, Conn. -- A viral infection this week apparently caused Charles Oliveira to miss weight Thursday. Now, it's going to keep him out of his fight altogether.

The UFC announced Friday afternoon that Oliveira has been pulled from his bout with Nik Lentz, which was scheduled for the prelims of UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1: Souza vs. Mousasi. Oliveira fell ill this morning and after being seen by a doctor he was removed from the fight, a UFC release stated.

Oliveira (18-4, 1 NC) came in six pounds overweight at 150 pounds Thursday here in Connecticut, blaming a relapse of a viral infection he contracted in Brazil. Oliveira, ranked No. 14 among featherweight contenders, had a golden opportunity against No. 8 Lentz, but now the bout is off. The 24-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist has won two in a row and is one of the best prospects in the 145-pound division.

The news is unfortunate for Lentz (25-6-2, 1 NC), who can only sit and watch the fights tonight. Lentz, 30, has won three of his last four with the lone loss in that time coming to featherweight No. 1 contender Chad Mendes.

UFC president Dana White told FOX Sports insider Ariel Helwani that Lentz will get his show and win money from the UFC. Oliveira will get neither.

UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1 is headlined by a middleweight contender bout between Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi.
