Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson out, Glover Teixeira awaits new opponent

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson has been forced out of his upcoming fight with Glover Teixeira on July 23 as part of the FOX UFC Fight Night card in Chicago.

Sources close to the promotion confirmed Johnson's exit to FOX Sports on Saturday following an initial report from MMAFighting.com.

A replacement opponent search is underway with Teixeira still expected to fight on the upcoming card in July.

Johnson vs. Teixeira was expected to be the co-main event on the card.

The fight for Johnson was a chance to pick up his third win a row and likely secure a title shot against the winner of the upcoming UFC 200 main event between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

Most recently, Johnson dispatched Ryan Bader with a vicious first round TKO in January and it appeared he was on the cusp of earning another shot at the title after falling short to Cormier last May.

Johnson pulled out of the fight with Teixeira for undisclosed reasons at this time, but an injury is most likely the cause.

FOX UFC Fight Night goes down on July 23 from Chicago with former women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm facing Valentina Shevchenko in the main event.
