Amanda Nunes: 'I'm 100 percent gonna beat Ronda Rousey'
Amanda Nunes is looking forward to facing Ronda Rousey in December.
Big news broke in the mixed martial arts industry this week as Ronda Rousey is set to return to the Octagon and challenge Amanda Nunes for her bantamweight title at UFC 207. While we are more than a few months away from the major event, Rousey has opened up as the betting favorite over her Brazilian opponent. With that in mind, “Lioness” wanted to remind the world that she’s the current champion and she’s ready to defeat Rousey.
“I’m 100 percent gonna beat Ronda Rousey — I’m 200 percent,” Nunes said as reported by TMZ. “”It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for, fighting on the big cards like UFC 200. Like I said, I have to defend this belt. It’s a huge show, a huge event.”
Nunes is welcoming Rousey back to active competition as the former champion has been out since being stopped by Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November. Since that time, the belt has changed hands twice, with Nunes becoming the most recent champion stopping Miesha Tate at UFC 200. MMA Oddsbreaker currently lists Rousey as the -190 favorite to Nunes being the +165 underdog.
Nunes has been calling for this matchup in recent weeks, letting the world know that she wants to face Rousey on a major stage.
“If they ask me who I want to fight, I’m going to say I want to fight Ronda. I’m not running from anyone,” Nunes said as reported by Evelyn Rodrigues of Combate. “I’m the champion and I can choose who I’m going to fight. I will choose what’s best for me and Ronda would be ‘the’ main fight, that’s why it has to be against her, it has to be with Ronda.”
Nunes versus Rousey is the only fight announced for UFC 207, which is set for Dec. 30 in Las Vegas.
