Alexander Gustafsson wants Anthony Johnson drug tested

Published Jan. 7, 2015 1:45 p.m. ET

Alexander Gustafsson (16-2) wants his UFC on FOX main event opponent Anthony "Rumble" Johnson (18-4) to be drug tested before their fight. Gustafsson doesn't specifically suspect Johnson of wrong doing, he just wants him to be subjected to the same type of testing he himself already has been.

According to a recent Facebook post from the Swede, he was tested by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) during the so-called out of competition period, leading up to his Jan 24 bout against Johnson.  "A request from Sweden has been sent to US Anti Doping commission to come and test me," Gustafsson posted.

"This is the way it's done in Sweden, no matter where you are, you are under control which I really appreciate, I want my sport to be clean so everyone compete under the same terms."

The former title challenger may not mind undergoing tests, but only if his opponent faces the same tests. "Therefor (sic), I would like to request that the same tests applies to my competitor Rumble Johnson," he continued.

"I want us both to show the world that we are clean top athletes competing in the UFC on equal terms."

In a recorded video statement, Gustafsson said, "I just got tested by the anti-doping commission. And I'm just thankful for them coming here, doing this test, keeping the sport clean...I really would hope that this goes out to both athletes that's competing against each other. So, that's my point."

We'll keep you posted with updates on this story as they occur.
