Alexander Gustafsson to face Glover Teixeira June 20 in Berlin main event
UFC president Dana White confirmed that light heavyweight contenders Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira are set to face one another in the main event of a June 20 event to take place in Berlin, Germany, in a recent interview with MMA Crazy. The matchup had only been rumored up to that point.
"It's true," White told reporter Louise Green.
"It's true. I am confirming that it is true."
During an interview with MMA Fighting on Monday, Gustafsson didn't confirm the fight was a done deal, and only expressed interest in the bout.
"Glover is a great opponent, he's a tough fighter," the Swede said.
"I think he'd be an exciting fight. We're both great fighters. We're both strikers, and I think he'd be a great fight to see."
The Brazilian, Teixeira, had one of the sport's longest win streaks, at 20, until he lost a decision to champion Jon Jones in April of 2014. Glover would also lose his next fight, a decision to Phil Davis.
Gustafsson nearly beat Jones in September of 2013 before losing a controversial decision. In his last bout, Gustafsson was knocked out in the first round by Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.
Johnson is now set to challenge Jones on May 23 at UFC 187.
