Alan Jouban comes from behind to score first-round TKO

Published Feb. 28, 2015 10:43 p.m. ET

Alan Jouban was the second consecutive hometown fighter to win dramatically Saturday night on the main card of UFC 184. Jouban scored a first-round TKO over Richard Walsh in their welterweight battle at the Staples Center.

Early on, however, Jouban appeared to be hurt and in trouble against the Aussie. Then, he connected with a left elbow to the temple that hurt Walsh badly.

From there, Jouban poured it on while backing Walsh up against the cage. Strike after strike connected to the head of Walsh, leaving him standing in a daze.

Referee John McCarthy smartly soon stepped in and stopped the bout.

The win comes after a recent controversial decision loss in Brazil to Warlley Alves. The win was all the more sweeter because of it for Jouban.

Post-fight, he described his thoughts as he smelled blood after landing the elbow. "Beat him up, where's (referee) John (McCarthy) at? I just wanted that win, to be honest."

The win improves Jouban's record to 11-3. The loss drops Walsh's to 8-3.
